Dr. Shelley Jagow is Professor of Music at Wright State University (Dayton, OH), where she is Director of Bands—conducting the Symphonic Band and Wind Symphony—and teaches conducting. She earned top honors in Music Education from the University of Saskatchewan (Canada) and the University of Missouri (Columbia) (mentors: Marvin Eckroth, Dale Lonis, Martin Bergee, Wendy Sims) and the Ph.D. in Music Education from Union Institute & University (Cincinnati) (mentors: Colonel Timothy Foley, Frank Battisti, Edward Wingard). She also earned the Certificate in Piano Performance IX (Royal Conservatory of Music) and has been nominated for the Robert J. Kegerreis Distinguished Professor of Teaching Award and the Brage Golding Distinguished Professor of Research Award and received the 2026 OMEA Distinguished Service Award.

An artist clinician with Conn-Selmer, Vandoren, Meredith Music, and GIA Music, “Dr. J” presents clinics, performances, and adjudications and serves as an honor band conductor at state, national, and international events including the Midwest Clinic, NASA, ISME, the World Saxophone Congress, and the U.S. Navy Band International Saxophone Symposium. She has presented widely across the U.S. and Canada and internationally in Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Scotland, and Spain.

She previously coached the WSU Avion Saxophone Quartet (Apple Music/iTunes), an award-winning ensemble that has commissioned and premiered new works. Dr. Jagow can be heard on the Emeritus label, NPR Performance Today, and America’s Millennium Tribute to Adolphe Sax. She is the author of books published by GIA/Meredith Music, including Expressive Musicianship: Concepts and Exercises to Develop a Band's Musical Potential; Teaching Instrumental Music: Developing the Complete Band Program (2nd ed.); Tuning for Wind Instruments (with iOS/Android app); Intermediate Studies for Developing Artists on the Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Saxophone and Bassoon and The Londeix Lectures (13+ hours, translated by William Street), and she contributes to Teaching Music Through Performance in Band (GIA).
